I don't check these forums too often anymore. Sorry. I don't know when we'll get to an audio book with Valdez, BTH, LTC and others. Thanks for snagging a copy of the book in whatever format you choose. You can now get it for Ipad via IBooks. Anyway, let me know what you think. JP

Check in with us more often. We know that BJ Raji time won't be stopping you.

Mrs. Bickel tells the guys how big the burrito was that she ate. Lurch to Mrs. Bickel:"I got a burrito in my pants!" EB:"I just wouldn't say that to your mother." Lurch:"We say everything to her! You said shaved cat! I can't say it!" (Lurch laughing hilariously…) Lurch 10/5/11 seg 12 10:00 mark

I finally got a chance to log some quality time with the book & finished it over the weekend. In a nutshell….I really enjoyed it, JP! Thanks for taking the time to write it all down.

I particularly enjoyed understanding the role your Dad had to play in your love of the sport. Probably, because I can relate to having a similar experience! My father wasn't an immigrant…but he did grow up in the Great Depression…so much so that he never really got be a kid in a lot of ways. He joined the Army at 15 & boxed in the service. He was actually pretty damn good!

Anyway, he never really understood…or shared my passion for other sports…but we always had boxing as a common ground. There was a gym in our basement where my brothers & I were taught to box by the old man. We would score the big fights together when they finally made their way to pre-HBO TV & argue over whether the judges had gotten it right or wrong. I'll always remember him sitting in "his" chair…scoring rounds on the back on an envelope….pointing out things to me that the commentators wouldn't pick up on for another round or two. We used to go the Golden Gloves nights at the old PGCC field house…where you could see an insane amount of boxing…dirt cheap! Some of my fondest memories of my Dad are centered around boxing. Glad to read I'm not the only one!

My only "nit pick" of the book…the chapters on Jimmy Lange & Willie Taylor were probably a tad too long. I dig boxing…particularly the local boxing scene & I caught myself Tom Glancy-ing them at times. Their importance to your story can be told more succinctly.  Those who know boxing…especially local boxing…will know how to fill-in-the-blanks for more info should they want to. Those that don't…aren't gonna care anyway. All they need/want are the essentials on who these guys are & why they matter to what you're going through.

All in all…a very cool read! Thanks again for putting it together!
